Dry Cider January
We can’t in good conscience tell you that hard cider is healthy, but if you are trying to watch your waistline or looking to improve your health by lowering sugar consumption, we can direct you to three of our ciders that offer you a healthier option with all the flavor and none of the residual sugar and guilt.
In our world, January is becoming known as Dry Cider January. It is a month long campaign launched but the American Cider Association (ACA) to promote ciders counting 0 grams of sugar. Our list of Dry Ciders that fulfill this criteria are:
Pink Guava
Pink Guava is fermented in our Dry Apple cider to create this tart, tropical refresher. Dry. 6.9% ABV
Dry Chokeberry
Piquant berry & cherry aromas with a clean, dry, baked apple and tannic berry flavor profile. 6.9% ABV
Dry Ginger
We infused our Dry Cider with Fuji ginger, to add refreshing citrus notes and a hint of ginger heat, to a tart apple base. Dry. 6.9% ABV
We are in good company
There are many low and no sugar hard cider out in the world now. The list of which cideries nationwide offer no sugar options can be found on ACA’s site and will be updated regularly. The ACA’s executive director Michelle McGrath has this to say to help us understand dry cider:
“The brain has a hard time distinguishing fruity from sweet. Many ciders with absolutely no sugar in them can still be fruit-forward. You’ll find there are a multitude of dry ciders available when you start seeking them.”
For those wondering how this no sugar reality in an alcoholic beverage comes to be, here is a quick lesson. Alcohol is made when yeast changes sugar into alcohol through fermentation. A cider that contains no residual sugar is fermented to dryness. Often cidermakers will blend a totally dry cider with juice for an acid and sugar balance. Then other times they leave the cider entirely dry. These later dry ciders are what the ACA is listing on their website for the campaign and what we introduced here.
For January, you have a few options of where to purchase the cider. You can order online and swing by on Saturdays or schedule Delivery to destination of your choice on Saturdays.
