Black and white photography by Brooks Steele with oil paintings by April Bliss! Come hang out with us! All (some) works available (maybe) for purchase at variable (completely situational) pricing.
About Brooks:
Before there was Instagram, there was silver halide. Brooks Steele works to tell a story, capture a moment or just put a little piece of himself on a couple thousand silver halide crystals. Using (antiquated?) dark room technology, his moments are captured using an old student model Nikon camera and then brought to life in a bath (or three) of glorious chemicals. Always candid moments, the repetition of shapes, unwilling (or unaware) subjects and heavy contrast of the blackest blacks and the whitest whites bring Steele’s moments and even thoughts to life. Shot primarily with natural light and variable film speeds, Brooks Steele’s black and white photography wants to tell you something.
About April:
April Bliss has lived in Longmont, CO for five years. From the small town of Berlin, Maryland, she graduated from Towson University with a bachelor of fine arts. She’s been influenced by a number of artists and artistic movements throughout her life, including a number of artists from her home town who introduced her to plein air painting at a young age. The contrasts of light and shadow, as well as vibrant and contrasting color are a constant influence in her work. The most enjoyable part for her is mixing the palette; where the colors of the painting come to life. Her medium is oil on canvas, with the help of a palate knife here or there.
