The artist known as QUIK is a collaborative effort between Quinn Porter and Phillip Kiphardt.  Phil and Quinn have been friends since meeting in college in Ft. Collins in 1995.

Phil went to art school (formerly the Colorado Institute of Art) for Computer Animation & Visual Communications.  He’s been painting and has been an active artist since his high school days in Golden, CO.  Phil’s upbeat and colorful style has always been a hallmark of his work.  He’s always employed bold colors, brushstrokes, and application techniques that invigorate you visually and inspire imagination.

Quinn went to art school at Colorado State University with an emphasis in painting and printmaking.  His analytical style has always been inspired by pattern, geometry, and abstract concepts.  He started using techniques such as applique and mixed media from an early point in his painting career.  Cutting up fabric and making shapes and patterns was influenced by his grandmother, who owned antique shops and had a vast quilt collection.

One summer a few years ago, Phil and Quinn shared a studio space.  Phil decided to paint on one of Quinn’s active canvases as something of a prank.  What followed was a realization that the two artists' imagery and ways of working produced some intriguing images.  Phil and Quinn continue to make many pieces together, often on larger canvases, that showcase their interest in color, shape, and inspirational colors and patterns.  Taking turns painting on the same piece, the two artists use their individual techniques to produce something visually unique and thought-provoking.
